COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Is Treefrog real wood?

Yes, Treefrog is real wood. Treefrog is an engineered wood. This process uses more commonly occurring species such as Italian Poplars and African Ayous (all certified wood from well-managed forests) to replicate the look, feel and warmth of more exotic and sometimes endangered woods without having to harvest those tree species. Additionally, engineered wood provides consistency in color and structure from sheet to sheet.

What type of finish is applied to the Treefrog Veneer?

Treefrog is prefinished with polyurethane and off–gassed to meet strict E1 standards for VOCs. Depending on the pattern, Treefrog is available in 3 different glosses: Wax Effect (Matte), Bright Silk (Satin), and a Gloss polyurethane finish. Treefrog Groove has its own polyurethane topcoat for its textured surface. In addition to the prefinished veneers, Treefrog offers several unfinished, paperbacked options.

Is Treefrog suitable for outdoor applications?

No, Treefrog is recommended for indoor applications only.

What are the available sizes?

Treefrog is predominantly available in 4′ x 8′ sheet sizes. Treefrog Groove is available only in 4′ x 10′ sizes and we often stock Wenge in 4′ x 10′ sizes.

Custom orders available for some items in 4′ x 10′ sizes. Call to inquire. Minimums apply.

What sort of glue can you use for Treefrog?

In general, a contact adhesive works best, since Treefrog is essentially a laminate (real wood on a laminate backer). If you are looking for a specific brand, please contact your local adhesives dealer. Wood glues are recommended for Treefrog Unfinished.

What kind of backer is used on Treefrog and is Treefrog available with other backers?

The majority of the line is backed with a phenolic backer, similar to a plastic laminate backer. Treefrog Unfinished is an unfinished veneer with a paper backer.

Can the Treefrog veneer be sold without a backer?

No, Treefrog is not currently available as a veneer only.

Can you adhere Treefrog to a drywall surface?

Treefrog works best on a completely flat, even surface that is free of debris. Therefore, drywall may not be suitable. We highly recommend applying the Treefrog veneer to a wood substrate.

How do I buy Treefrog?

Treefrog is sold through our national distributor network, which allows you to receive material quickly, easily and affordably. In areas and countries where we don’t have distributor coverage, we sell direct. To find the nearest Treefrog distributor, please contact us.

Is Treefrog similar to most plastic HPL laminates in the marketplace?

No, Treefrog is prefinished real wood veneer laminate with a polyurethane topcoat. Each sheet captures the warmth, depth and beauty of real wood. Plastic laminate is a printed piece of paper with a melamine coating.

How do I get samples of Treefrog and what are the largest size samples available?

Treefrog samples can be requested through your local distributor or directly through us. Samples are chip size, 4″ x 6″ and 8″ x 10″.

Are Treefrog samples free?

Treefrog samples are currently free. However, the cost of samples is a huge expense for us and ultimately affects the price of Treefrog, so we ask that you keep this in mind when requesting samples.

Can you customize the color and structure of Treefrog?

Yes, customizing a certain pattern is an option. Although, minimum quantities are usually several hundred sheets. Also, prototype lab samples take 4-8 weeks to create.

Does Treefrog offer matching edgebanding?

Treefrog offers matching or closely matching edgebanding for our most popular veneer laminates. See them here:

Does Treefrog need to be counterbalanced?

Yes, we suggest using the same material for correct balancing. We sell “seconds”: sheets of material at discounted pricing (when available) to use as balance sheets. On smaller applications, the material can also be balanced with a traditional HPL backer of the same thickness and quality.

Will Treefrog fade when exposed to direct and indirect light both natural and artificial?

All woods, including Treefrog, react to direct and indirect light, both natural and artificial (such as incandescent and fluorescent lamps). Therefore, a change of the surface color and appearance over time is a natural characteristic and not a defect. In particular, heat and humidity will interact with light to accelerate the aging process. That said, All Treefrog veneers are lab tested and created to have the least possible fading.

How do you maintain and clean the pre-finished Treefrog veneer?

Treefrog can be maintained and cleaned with a damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaning products. In case of more resistant stains, we recommend the use of a citrus-based cleaner. Note: Never use acetone or trichloroethylene on the polyurethane surfaces.

Where is Treefrog manufactured?

Treefrog is manufactured in Italy by ALPI, one of the world’s leading creators and manufacturers of engineered woods.

Is Treefrog post-formable?
Yes, Treefrog is post-formable. The post-forming temperature is 288°F and has a bending radius of 7/8″.
How is Treefrog shipped?

Typically, Treefrog is rolled and shipped in well-protected corrugated cartons, usually via UPS. Larger orders will be packed and crated on a pallet or skid. Depending on order size and destination, we work to determine the most cost-efficient means that ensures the delivery of undamaged material.

Are the Treefrog sheets oversized?

Yes, depending on the actual sheet itself it can be oversized by ½” – 1″.

Can I recycle my old outdated Treefrog chain set?

Absolutely. In fact, we encourage you to do so. It will come back to you in a form of really good karma (like a completely updated sample chain). We want you to have updated samples, and we want to reuse the Treefrog samples that you aren’t using. Send old Treefrog chains to:
